Fun Facts About Electric Cars

The First EV Was Designed in 1884

Inventor Thomas Parker, best known for lighting the London Underground, built the first definable electric vehicle. Built with high-capacity rechargeable batteries, he would retool and work on the designs over the next decade; while other automotive inventors began seriously considering the technology in the 20th century.

EVs Include Cars, Transit Buses, Trucks, and More!

One of the most unique facts about electric cars is that it’s not only cars that are being made anymore. Beyond comfortable sedans and SUVs, manufacturers are making electric buses, delivery trucks, and even buses to meet the changing needs of businesses and local governments. Many EV trucks are cheaper to operate than diesel trucks, thanks to their lack of a fuel tank.

Charge Your Vehicle at Home, Work, or The Store

Many first-time Dolan Springs buyers purchase plug-in hybrids as they want a gradual transition. Some are concerned about the lack of EV charging stations around Hackberry. Nowadays, more public EV charging stations are popping up.

Not only can you plug in at the mall, grocery stores, or other public plazas, but you still have the always-reliable EV home charging option as well.

Five Categories of Electric Vehicles

One of the more unique facts about electric cars is that there are five categories of EVs at present:

  1. Battery EVs: These run entirely on batteries and electric motors. These can be recharged from a power grid, and their mileage is 100–200 per charge.
  2. Plug-In Hybrids: Uses rechargeable batteries, electric motors, and internal combustion engines. Their mileage range on the electric mode is 30–40 miles per charge.
  3. Hybrid EVs: Use small electric batteries and internal combustion engines, with the batteries being charged by engines, or via regenerative braking.
  4. Extended-Range EVs: These have rechargeable batteries and internal combustion engines. Their batteries are charged via engines or power grids.
  5. Neighborhood EVs: Use batteries that can be recharged from a 120-volt grid. They’re able to reach a maximum speed of 30 mph.
