How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Mechanic with Tires

Ford service requires many different aspects to keep your Ford running the way it should in Golden Valley. Typically, you’re going to want to rotate your tires about every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, but you’ll want to check your owner’s manual for the most accurate information. You’ll also want to schedule service with the team at Anderson Ford Kingman because we’ve got Ford experts who know your Ford inside and out.

When to Rotate Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles

There are two different tire rotation patterns for FWD and RWD vehicles. The difference between these two drivetrains is where the power is sent. It’s really self explanatory: power goes to the front tires in a front-wheel drive car and a rear-wheel drive car gives power to the rear tires. That means that in this case, one side of your car will have its tires wear down faster. This is how you rotate your tires:

  • If you’re performing tire rotation on an FWD car, flip sides when moving the rear tires. That means your old rear right is your new front left. However, when going from front to back, don’t switch sides.
  • When rotating tires on an RWD car, do the opposite of what you would do for FWD. Flip sides when moving the front tires to the back of the car, but keep the rear tires on the same side when you bring them to the front.

When to Rotate Tires: AWD Tire Rotation Tips

If you’ve got an AWD car in Dolan Springs or Hackberry, the rotation pattern differs. You’ll also want to rotate your tires every 3,000 to 5,000 miles—more often than with FWD or RWD. This is the rotation pattern:

  1. The left rear tire goes to the right front position.
  2. The right rear tire goes to the left front position.
  3. The right front tire goes to the left rear position.
  4. The left front tire goes to the right rear position.
